Frequently asked questions
What is a digital sand model?
A digital sand model is a 3D computer-generated terrain visualization that replicates and modernizes the traditional military sand table. It combines high-resolution satellite imagery, digital elevation models (DEM), and real-time tactical overlays to support mission planning, operational briefings, and decision-making.
How is it different from a physical sand table?
Unlike a static physical sand table, digital sand models offer photorealistic terrain, real-time updates, multi-layer toggling (satellite/DEM), unlimited annotation, trajectory simulation, and remote sharing — all while being deployable on workstations, tablets, or large tactical displays.
Can it work offline for secure environments?
Yes. GLOBEIR's digital sand model can be deployed on air-gapped, offline workstations for forward operating bases, command posts, and classified environments. No internet connectivity is required during operation.
What kind of terrain data does it use?
It uses high-resolution satellite imagery (sub-metre where available), CartoSAT-1/2, SRTM, ALOS PALSAR DEM, drone-captured photogrammetric data, and LiDAR point clouds — customized per area of interest.
Is it suitable for artillery fire planning?
Yes. The model supports launch-point/impact-point marking, multiple weapon trajectory overlays, range fan calculation, and line-of-sight analysis for artillery, mortar, and missile fire planning.
Does GLOBEIR provide custom terrain for specific AORs?
Yes. We build custom digital sand models for any Area of Responsibility (AOR), border sector, or specific operational area — including high-altitude regions like Ladakh, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh.
